A set of golf clubs |
a basic structure.
Like other aspects of the game such as those related to using technology on the course, there are limitations and rules related to golf clubs.
As stated by the rules of golf, a golfer is allowed to carry a maximum of 14 golf clubs in the golf bag in any given round. A golfer can carry fewer golf clubs (e.g. 7, 8 etc.) at the players’ decision, but not more than 14 clubs when you go to play.
During practice, however, a player can carry as many clubs as they want in their golf bags.
The clubs that are to be included in the set fall into the following categories:
- driver
- woods
- hybrids
- irons
- wedges
- putters
Among the 14 clubs brought into a round, most or all the clubs from these categories will be present in the golfer's bag, but the golfer will decide the specific combination. Generally, everyone will take at least a putter, irons and a driver.
Off-The-Rack Manufacturer Sets
The grouping of the golf clubs by each manufacturers differs. Some manufacturers will assemble complete sets off the rack that include a driver, irons, hybrids & iron combinations together with a putter and one or more wedges.
Some manufacturers may provide a full set of everything including a golf bag, full club set and a few few accessories such as gloves, tees, etc.
Having said that, many golfers will prefer buying their golf clubs separately. For example, a golfer may decide to buy a driver along with some fairways hybrids or woods.
Irons are often sold in sets of 8 consisting of 3-iron through the pitching wedge, 4-iron through
the sand wedge, or the so-called combo which combines irons and hybrids together.
In addition to this, a golfer can separately buy a putter and one or two wedges. The final makeup of the golf club set will vary from golfer to golfer.
Conclusion
So, how many golf clubs are there in a set? The answer is: in competition, there can be no more than 14, and outside of competition, there is no limit to how many clubs you can have in a set.
I hope this helps!
